Toro y Moi is 24-year-old Columbia, South Carolina native and resident, Chazwick Bundick. in 2009, Bundick earned a BFA in Graphic Design from The University of South Carolina. Started in 2001 as a bedroom project that quickly grew into live performance. The music is associated with the chillwave movement but the sound is influenced by freak-folk, r&b, and french house.
After seeing Toro in Chicago for a Lollapalooza after party last summer, right before Phoenix at the House of Blues, impressed as any could be as fans of his. He really sets the tone of the new album with raw instrumentals of his band. More traditional sound with a disco funk beat here and there with New Beat and then bringing the sound out withan acoustic piece of Before I’m Done. This is a new direction he’s taking and it brings in the new sound. We actually like it a lot and it’s good. Still danceable time to time. The phase of looping, synth heavy jabs, and samples are still present but not as deep as his first album, Causers of This. Check out Go With You, one of our favorites so far.
